10 Tips for Office Health & Wellness
By  Roslyn Bazzelle

1.     For every third interoffice communication, get up from your desk, walk over, and talk to the person instead of sending an email.

2.     Three stories or less take the steps (be careful with the stilettos divas!).

3.     Keep healthy snacks at your desk such as fresh fruits & nuts.

4.     Keep a water bottle or jug at your desk and stay hydrated.

5.     At lunchtime eat 30 minutes and walk 30 minutes (bring comfortable shoes to change into just in case).

6.     Bring your lunch vs. buying (also great for the budget conscious).

7.     Breathe!  A nice deep bre athe can keep you refreshed and energized when you're a bit stressed at your desk.

8.     Got a lunch meeting at a fancy restaurant? cut your meal in ½ & take it to-go, get the sauce on the side & don't be afraid to ask questions.

9.   Stretch your legs and arms periodically throughout the day.

10.  Keep your computer screen at eye level.  If the screen is angled to far up or down it can cause neck pain & tension.
Run for the Rose
Run=2  0for the Rose
Roz - Run for the Rose
I had a blast this past Sunday at The 7th Annual Run for the Rose and had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem and participate in the 5k walk.  My chip time for the 5k was not so good since I chose to walk briskly vs. running, but, I made sure I was camera ready (smiling and fake/running) when the photogs were in view!  There was an amazing crowd of people who did a tremendous job raising $412,706 for Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and Brain Cancer Research.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation, it was created by the Rose family after Dr. Rose passed away in 2002.  Here is an excerpt from the Run for the Rose website regarding the Dr. Marnie Rose Story:

Dr. Marnie Rose was just 27 and in the first year of her pediatric medical residency at Children's Memorial HermannHospital when she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Despite her diagnosis, she agreed to share all - her cancer journey, personal life and professional duties as a medical resident - with a TV crew from the ABC reality series Houston Medical. The critically acclaimed hospital series followed the lives of doctors, nurses, other health care professionals and patients at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Houston Medical aired nationally on the ABC Network for six weeks of summer, 2002.

"We wanted to honor Marnie's spirit, courage and strength with an event that would benefit two causes that touched her life so personally - brain cancer and children," says Myles Rose, Marnie's twin. "My sister chose to fight cancer with the nation watching. In doing so, she both put a "face" to brain cancer and offered strength and optimism to many who were ill. With the Run for the Rose, we hope to continue Marnie's legacy."
Marnie died on August 23, 2002, from complications of her cancer, just five weeks after the show's final episode aired.

Healthy Food Alternatives by Roslyn Bazzelle
Instead of Nachos with cheese, try my:
Avocado-Black Bean Deluxe

AvocadoIngredients:
1 avocado - peeled, pitted and mashed
1 roma tomato - chopped
¼ cup onion - finely chopped
Garlic salt - ½ teaspoon
1 lime - cut in ½
1/2 can - organic black beans (low sodium if available) - drained and rinsed off with water
Parmesan cheese
1 jalepeno or chile pepper (If you like it spicy) - chopped

In a small bowl, add avocado, squeeze ½ of the lime and sprinkle garlic salt and mix.  Layer on top, the chopped onion, tomatoes, and pepper (if you want a little kick).  Then, add the black beans, squeeze the other ½ of the lime and sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top.  Enjoy as-is or as a dip with 1.5 serving of low sodium tortilla chips - I always like to put my tortilla chips in my toaster oven for a few seconds to get them nice and toasty!

StrawberryInstead of Strawberry Cheesecake, try my:
Strawberry & Pudding Heaven
Ingredients:
5 small-med. strawberries - sliced (stem removed)
3.5 oz Vanilla Pudding
1 graham cracker - crushed

In a small bowl, add crushed graham cracker, then layer on vanilla pudding and top with the strawberries.  It's easy, low-cal and tastes great!
